But then come the ICC Champions Trophy, played by the best eight nations in the world, a different beast is unleashed upon the opponents. This time around, in Champions Trophy 2025, Rohit Sharma‘s team beat Steve Smith’s Australia to enter the final, their third successive in the tournament.

Previously, India had won the trophy in 2013 after beating England in the summit clash, followed by a runners-up appearance, after losing to Pakistan in 2017. This time around it will be a fresh opponent – between South Africa and New Zealand, with the hopes of a third Champions Trophy title. Back in 2002/03 India were the joint winners with Sri Lanka, followed by a title in 2013.

If one takes a look at their record closely, they have won 66.66% of their matches in the Champions Trophy. In short, they are the most successful team in the tournament, miles ahead of Australia. In 33 encounters, India has won 22, with 8 losses, and three no results. The next best on the list is, West Indies, who have played 24 and won 13, with a win% of 54. Australia is poor with a win record of only 48%.

Now, the second semi-final of the CT 2025 will be played on March 5, between SA and NZ. One of the teams will then travel to Dubai, to participate in the final against India. The Indian side wouldn’t want to play New Zealand again, who have a better H-2-H record in ICC events. In the World Cups they have won five times over India.
