Jason Gillespie chama Aaqib Javed de “palhaço” depois que o treinador do Paquistão culpa as frequentes mudanças na equipe pelas lutas do troféu dos campeões da equipe.

Former Australian fast bowler and ex-coach of Pakistan, Jason Gillespie, recently took a jab at the current head coach of Pakistan cricket team Aaqib Javed, calling him a “clown”. This remark came after Javed explained Pakistan’s struggles in the Champions Trophy 2025 by criticising the frequent changes in the coaching and selection staff.

Coaching saga in Pakistan cricket

During a press conference in Lahore, Aaqib Javed, a hero from Pakistan’s 1992 World Cup win, criticised team’s poor performance to instability in coaching roles. “PCB appointed 16 coaches and 26 selectors in the last 2 and a half years, and this has caused the cricket in the country to suffer,” Javed said. He further explained, “In our system, you can never completely rule anyone out…But that does not mean that experienced players do not have a role to play in the future.”

Javed’s comments about the coaching changes sparked a reaction from Gillespie, who took to the social media platform Threads to express his frustration. “This is hilarious. Aaqib was clearly undermining Gary and me behind the scenes, campaigning to be the coach in all formats. He is a clown,” Gillespie posted, indicating there’s more to the story behind the scenes of Pakistan cricket.

Jason Gillespie as coach of Pakistan cricket team

Before Javed’s tenure, Gary Kirsten was appointed as the white-ball coach and Jason Gillespie as the Test coach. Both were expected to bring a fresh wave of success to Pakistan cricket on their two-year contracts before the T20 World Cup 2024. However, Kirsten left after the tournament and Gillespie was let go due to unresolved issues over his role and contract.
